Problems that still remain today are Young girls are being sent to Britain
for the abusive removal of their
genitalia by migrant families across Europe
because the country is regarded as a soft touch on the ritual,
an
investigation has found.
Amina Yahaya, an 18-year-old British-Somali student living in Bristol, said
she knew of “FGM parties”
being held in the city. “They cut them all
together, as a group,” she explained, “because it is cheaper.
At first, the
girls are all excited because it’s a party, until they realise what is going to
happen, and then
they get frightened.

What we learned about studying this issue is that people all over the world
have really different
traditions, than we do. The world is so different from
what we think is going on than what is really
going on. Also that people hold
on to their traditions and beliefs, no matter what, even if it’s against
the
human rights issues. We also think that women aren’t treated equally in third
world countries. We
believe that some things need to change.
I would like to become a defender for teen bullying because I have seen so
many young teenagers hurt,
from bullying. I especially hate Cyber bulling.
There are so many stories of teenagers killing themselves
because they feel
un loved. ~Tatianna
I would like to become a defender against racism. I am sick of it. We are a
progressing world and should
be past this. This issue isn’t just with White
people, this is with all of us. We need to stop attacking
people and come
together. ~Brandall
I would like to become a defender against violence in Chicago. This is where
I was raised and I feel it
should be safer. I love Chicago and want to see it
progress. I want to make it better, and one way is
stopping the violence.

What surprised us the most about studying the FGM issue is the fact that the
parents of the victims
usually will not oppose this radical tradition. This
is a procedure that has the potential to be life
threatening, but for
centuries it has been repeated.
Fauziya Kassindja is a remarkable leader as well as a remarkable role model
which makes her very
admirable. She clearly displays the importance of
resistance when wanting to give in to your oppressor.
She also displays that
success can result from your struggle and that you can change the lives of
many
people who feel oppressed in ways similar or different from the way you
might. Fauziya modeled
realistic and graceful behavior throughout her
adversity which is why she cannot be criticized.
